About the show

Somewhere out there is a creature so terrifying, most humans dare not speak its name: the BISEXUAL.

Junior just wants to be an ordinary guy. But it feels like everyone knows he isn't. Bullies pick him apart at school, while his dad wants him to be more masc. Aside from his body-image issues, he also wrestles with dreams and desires he can't tell anyone about — he can barely admit them to himself.

Just when he thinks things couldn't get worse for him, bodies start turning up in his small town, and suspicion falls on folkloric beings. Beings who sound uncannily similar to him…

A one-person horror B-movie for the stage, this one-of-a-kind show explores life as a bi man, and the associated horrors. After successful outings in Buxton, London and Edinburgh, the piece is now being developed for a small initial tour in October and November 2026. Thank you to Arts Council England.

I’m now looking for a new performer, as well as a brilliant crew to take this show to greater heights!

Take a look at the available roles and descriptions below, then follow the relevant button to apply. I’m open to anyone from anywhere, whether newbie or seasoned pro (as long as you’re an ally), but particularly encourage applications from LGBTQIA+ creatives.

Rehearsals and development will be taking place in September, with performances from mid-October to early November.

PLEASE NOTE: Development and rehearsals will be taking place in Nottingham, so the performer and director will ideally be based within easy commuting distance. Please be aware that there is no separate budget for accommodation and travel, apart from the tour dates.

  • Performer (Junior)

Junior is soft but on edge – a guy who can get pushed to anger and violence, where he’s almost animal. References are made to his being hairy.

While he’s the protagonist and this is a one-person show, the performer must be able to play a variety of characters (from bully jock to toxic father to laidback nerdy girl), so versatility and physicality are key.

  • Director

This would suit someone who loves new writing and has experience of small-scale productions, ideally one-person shows.

The show is influenced by horror movies of the ‘40s and ‘50s, and this new version will incorporate elements of teen films of the ‘90s, so someone with an interest in both those genres would be perfect.

  • Set & Costume Designer

A visionary who can evoke both the 1950s and 1990s would be the dream – and who can work with small spaces, or at least create adaptable designs for this tour.

This is primarily a set design role – the script only requires costume to be a minimal shirt-and-jeans affair.

  • Lighting Designer

Riffing on both vintage horror films and ‘90s teen movies, the show intends to be both funny and creepy, so someone who can combine dramatic, creepy mood with lightness would be just the ticket.

  • Sound Designer / Composer

While it would be great to have music that could’ve come from an RKO film in the ‘40s, it’s not totally essential. The story involves radio news bulletins that need to sound vintage, and incidental sounds like dog barks.

  • Stage & Tour Manager

While this is a pretty low-maintenance one-person show, we’ll be counting on someone efficient and organised who can make sure it runs smoothly. Aside from attending rehearsals, you’ll be expected to accompany the performer on tour.

  • Videographer-Editor

A creative collaborator is needed for this one. As it’s inspired by movies, the show aims to have projection at some point in its life, so this will be more of an experimental period. A love of vintage horror would be nice, but most important are ideas and openness to trying things out based on the script and the rehearsals.

  • Marketing Manager

You’ll bring a creative, engaging approach to promoting this show, whether in contacting press or doing posts and reels for social media. You’ll ideally be documenting rehearsals, so someone local to Nottingham would be preferred, but remote workers will definitely be considered.
